AGRICULTURE

  Approximately 30,000 acres of intensively irrigated cropland is located in the Weiser area.  The main crop rotation in this area is wheat, onions, and sugarbeets.  Additional crops include corn, potatoes, beans, peas, safflower, and alfalfa.
Surface irrigation systems supply water to the majority of the irrigated acres in the Weiser area while sprinklers and drip systems supply about 7,800 acres.
Dryland farming of grain, hay, and pasture also occurs throughout Washington County.
*Average yields for some crops in the area are as follows:
      Winter Wheat  106 bu/a (irrigated), 31 bu/a (non-irrigated)
        Alfalfa               3.7  t/a (irrigated), 1.9 t/a (non-irrigated)
        Sugarbeets      28.7 t/a
        Corn                147 bu/a
