Fruit Production

Payette County has some of the best fruit producing soils in Idaho not to mention the long growing season which ripen fruit perfectly on the vines or trees. The warm and long days of spring and summer and cool nights result in excellent fruit color and flavor. This area supports the production of table and wine grapes, strawberries, apricots, sweet and tart cherries, peaches and nectarines, plums, plumquat, pears and apples trees. Nut trees such as walnut, pistachio, and filberts also do well. Apples are by far the most popular fruit grown in the county.

On this web page, you will find information that will assist the homeowner and the commercial orchardist alike in the production of tree fruits. If you have questions or comments, contact Tony McCammon, University of Idaho Extension Educator by phone at 208-642-6022 or by Email.
