Owyhee County 4-H Sheep Projects

May 29, 2009 - Sheep Weigh-in *

* Scrapies tags are required for all ewes. All market sheep must be slick shorn within 7 days prior to final weigh-in. All market sheep are required to have a tail dock length of .7 inches (minimum) or longer as measured by the "De Tail" device to be eligible for market show.

Owyhee County Tail Docking Guidelines
  • 4-H and FFA Livestock Project enrollment forms are DUE March 1!
  • Maximum weight at weigh-in is 85 lbs. (suggested 75-85 lbs.)
  • 68 days on feed.
  • Work hard to "market" your market project. Bring in those buyers!
  • Minimum weight to sell at Fair is 110 lbs. Final weigh-in is Wednesday, August 5.

Breeding Projects.  Breeding animal projects should be conducted in a manner that is supportive and complementary to the market livestock program policy. The minimum period of time for ownership (or as the primary caregiver) for beef, dairy, goat, sheep and swine breeding animals fed and exhibited at a 4-H sanctioned event will be 90 days, or as noted in the Idaho 4-H Project Requirement Handbook. If a project animal is leased by a 4-H member, a complete written and signed copy of the lease agreement must be returned to the county extension office by the required ownership date.
