What is the Master Gardener Program??

The function of the Plant Clinic and the Master Gardener Program is to help homeowners with an acre or less, identify and resolve their landscape problems.  Master Gardeners receive extensive training in landscape management.  Their training includes classes in Botany, Horticulture, Soil Science, Entomology, Pesticide Management, Lawn Care, Plant Identification, Plant Pathology and many other related topics.  The classes have expanded to include 'Managing Your Backyard Forest' to better serve homeowners with forestlands between 5-10 acres.  Continual training and volunteer hours are required each year to recertify as a Master Gardener.  Master Gardeners are available to answer questions at the local Farmer's Market in the spring and summer and at the North Idaho Fair in August.  Master Gardeners work with other agencies within the county to help educate the public in regard to water quality issues and reduction and correct use of chemicals in the landscape.
