Benefits to the family from
Parents as Teachers:
When parents participate, children improve in language, problem
solving, and social skills. Parents are more confident in
their parenting skills and read more to their children.
Parents stay involved in their child's education, both at school
and at home. Children benefit when potential problems in
development, hearing, or vision are detected early and later
difficulties in school are prevented.

The University of Idaho Parents
as Teachers Demonstration Project began in December 1999 when the
Office of the Governor contracted with University of Idaho
Extension to develop a set of Parents as Teachers programs in
order to evaluate the fit of the program in Idaho communities
throughout the state. Families began to enroll in 2000.
