Western Regional Leader's Forum

A great opportunity for 4-H leaders, members, and families to go and gather new ideas for 4-H is what the Western Regional Leaders forum has to offer. This great opportunity takes place in Boise the first weekend in March 2008. There is some scholarship money available through Butte County Leaders Council.

For more information visit the 4-H website or contact the Butte County Extension Office.

4-H Members Basics

4-H members must be 8 years old before January before January 1, 2008. The registration for 4-H is $6.25 unless you are participating in the horse program, and then the fee is $9.00 for each member and there is not a limit on how many projects that they participate in.

Each project that the 4-H participates in will have a record book of some sort, they will need to do a demonstration for each project, and then the project must be put on public display, such as the Butte County Fair or a library or a school.

Fee Break down:

$5.00 goes to 4-H council to support events and purchase materials

$1 insurance for non-horse project youth

$2 for youth participating in the horse program.

$1.75 for horse youth member dues for district and

state horse council.

$.25 for each member to participate in the 4h for me

program provided by the State 4-H Office.

4-H Clubs

There have been some questions on what constitutes a 4-H club. 4-H clubs can be a project club, this a club that focuses on one specific project. There are  community clubs where members complete multiply project and not all members are doing the same project. There also can be a family club where a parent is the leader and this can be either a project club or a community club.  The important part is that the leaders are properly trained and informed so that the 4-H members have a good experience and are given a chance to complete the project.

4-H Insurance

This fee has been added to the registration fee this year as a standard fee to protect the 4-H member. This is for  omething that might happen while the 4-H member is participating in a 4-H meeting or event. This insurance has always been optional, but the University of Idaho is highly recommending it and will soon be required. Due to the higher risk with the horse project, the fee for this is higher

Teen Conference

This year Teen Conference will be June 9'h through 13'h in Moscow on the campus of the University of Idaho.  This is an outstanding conference for youth that have completed the 8,h grade through seniors in High School.  There are opportunities to meet other teens from other parts of the state along with chances to develop leadership skills and participate in other hands on learning experiences. Registration will start the first part of March, so be watching.

Cloverbud Basics

Cloverbuds are between the ages of 5 and 8 years old. They are able to participate in 4-H meetings, but they are not allowed to take horses, beef, lamb or swine. if a 4-H member wishes to take an animal as a 4-H project, the animal must be able to set in the cloverbuds, lap.  There are special Cloverbud record books and they can still display their work at the county fair, but they will not be judged competively. Last year we had cloverbuds that participated in the rabbit project and they did wonderful!
