Boundary County Agriculture

 

According to the 2007 Census of Agriculture, Boundary County has 373 farms with 73,500 acres in farmland.  The average size of farms is 197 acres.  The major crops grown in the county include winter wheat, spring wheat, barley, hay, and nursery crops.  Based on the 2007 Census of Agriculture, the market value of products sold in Boundary County is $30,225,000.

Boundary County Extension Agriculture Programs

The University of Idaho Extension System in Boundary County offers a variety of agriculture related educational programs. There are programs in cereal production, forage and pasture management, and nursery production.

Jennifer Jensen is the University of Idaho Extension Educator for agriculture in Boundary County. Jennifer started working in Extension in 2008 after spending 6 years working in public gardens. Jennifer specializes in consumer and commercial horticulture classes. 

Educational programs include:

  • producer winter schools
  • workshops
  • tours
  • pesticide applicator recertification classes
  • Winter cereal schools and nursery production workshops - generally held in February
  • Forage and pasture management classes - generally scheduled for early spring 
  • Tours - held in July
  • Classes with pesticide recertification credits are held throughout the year.  Please consult the Extension connections Newsletter for dates and times.
