Getting Enrolled in 4-H

Ada County has their 4-H clubs divided into 3 major categories of Family and Consumer Science, Horse and Livestock.  When a child or volunteer indicates that they are interested in joining 4-H, they follow this process:

  1. Call the 4-H Office and speak with a 4-H staff person about becoming a member.
  1. The 4-H staff person will help the member decide upon their area of project interest (horse, home economics, science, art, livestock, etc.) by sending the potential member some basic information if requested.  This might also happen at an Information Night held at one of the area elementary schools (please call the office for a school schedule list), or by attending the annual Information Nights during the first week of October.
  1. The Information might include the Idaho 4-H Today, which has a listing of most of the projects, offered by Ada County, a sheet of member or leader requirements and other information.
  1. Once the member or volunteer has had time to view the information, they contact the office for possible clubs to join based upon project interest.
  1. Generally, the 4-H staff will give members a list of 2-4 club names to contact.
  1. When contacting the clubs, potential members should ask if the club is accepting new members, when are the meeting times and dates, what, if any, are the club requirements, ages of members and other questions that might be of interest to the potential member.
  1. Please take the time to visit potential clubs.  Having a hands-on visit will help you decide which club is right for you.
  1. Once the decision is made on which club to join, ask your leader for an Enrollment/Commitment To Excellence form.  Complete the enrollment form, indicate which projects you are interested in taking and include your enrollment fee and project materials fee with the completed enrollment form.  At this time, also sign the Commitment To Excellence form on the back of the enrollment form.  Your leader will turn in these materials and get your project books and record forms.

Once these steps are completed, you will be an official 4-H member.  Welcome!!!
